Excerpt

I grabbed my purse and headed outside to go and buy lunch.  J was on the phone, but saw me come outside and signalled for me to wait.

“I’m going to buy lunch, J.  And I only get an hour so I don’t have time to wait for you,” I said, tersely.  He kept talking and scowled at me.  I turned and started to walk away from him, towards the cafe where I always bought lunch.

I could hear him muttering something into the phone and then he must have ended his call because he went silent.  Then, he barked, “Madison!”

The last thing I wanted to do was stop for him, but there was something in his tone; a ‘don’t fuck with me’ command.  So I stopped, and turned around to look at him.  Oh, my.  He was shitty. 

He stalked to where I was and got in my face.  “Why the fuck do you have to be so difficult about this?” He was fuming.

Well, I could see him, and raise him in his anger.  “Maybe it has something to do with the way Scott has gone about this.  And the fact that he sent you!”

He flinched.  It was only for a second, and most people wouldn’t have even noticed it.  But I knew J, and I saw it.  It surprised the fuck out of me.  “Well then, it looks like we’ve got some shit to sort out, babe, because I’m not going anywhere.”

“I don’t want to sort shit out with you.  That ship sailed two fucking years ago, J,” I spat.

He gripped my arm, pulling me closer, “No, it fucking didn’t,” he growled, eyes blazing, “And you can’t deny there’s still something here.  I feel it and I know you feel it too.”

I laughed.  No, actually, I cackled.  “You wanna fuck, J?  I can feel that, and, yeah, if you wanna go there, I’m all for it.  But don’t mistake my desire for your cock for anything else.”

This book starts with a bang and not one from a gun.

If you were a woman that grew up in the Motorcyle Club life and you left that life and the people you love because of certain events.  Those events being you break up with the man you love (Jason a/k/a J) cause he cheated on you, or so you think.  Your best friend’s boyfriend (Rob) attempts to rape you, ends up dead because of said attempt, and then your bestie (Bec) won’t speak to you anymore.  So you become an alcoholic and hook up with a rival MC leader (Nix), a really bad guy, who then beats you half to death.  Sounds like a lot of really exciting stuff right?  Too much excitement for Madison who had been partially sheltered from the dark side of her father’s MC.  Madison cleans up her act but decides that in order to keep it that way she needs a clean slate.  That lifestyle must be left behind.  A whole new life with all new set of friends. 

It all comes together for Madison until one day a fateful telephone call from her brother Scott brings it all right back to front and center.  It seems that after Madison left Bec hooked up with Nix.  Nix beat Bec to death, then shot her teenage son to death and is now hunting down her daughter.  Oh! By the way, he’s also hunting down Madison because how dare she leave him.  The only way to protect Madison is to bring her back into the fold.  Back to the place that was her undoing.  No way she’s going back there so what is a brother to do?  He sends Jason to get her.  Once confronted with graphic images of the violence used on Bec and knowing her little girl is still alive and in need of protection – Madison agrees to return.  Immediately, the sparks fly and it is obvious that Jason and Madison are nowhere near done with each other.  Lots of unfinished business that gets put on the backburner while the situation with Nix is resolved. 

There are a few surprises here.  Enough hot sex to keep it interesting.  There is also a lively set of characters so that we can expect more books in this series.  Though I liked Storm – Madison got on my nerves a few times.  I felt like I wanted more – more I don’t know what though.  Then again – maybe that’s the point.  I look forward to watching Nina Levine’s writing mature and grow.  Count me in for Book #2.
