Sandy B's Review

Inky (Book #1 The Leaves) left me in a bad way with a HELL of a cliffhanger.  Thank God there wasn’t long to wait until the release of Cole.  If I expected for Cole to be like Inky, then I would have been disappointed.  While in Inky we watch as Inky and Cole find each other and fall in love.  In Cole we deal with the aftermath of Inky’s kidnapping by Joe.
The family has closed ranks, around Anika and Cole.  Cole has mended fences with his father and the man is a changed person.  His mother has had a change of heart and it turns out she still loves her husband.  Actually, it’s very amusing to watch.  There is even a part where they get carried away by their ardor and break some holiday ornaments that had me chuckling.  Aimes is happily pregnant and eating everything in sight.  Gus is being his adorable country boy self.  Anika has accepted Cole’s wedding proposal (Cole doesn’t know it yet) and things are going great! Right?  Except for one little teensy problem.  Joe has kidnapped Anika and no one knows it yet.  Joe is bonkers out of his mind and talking all kinds of crazyness.  Anika is in deep trouble, terrified because she has no idea what’s going to happen to her.  What is she doesn’t survive THIS time.
We know from Inky that Anika and Cole love each other.  What we may not know is how deeply that loves goes.  Cole who has come a very long way to come out of the dark – would rather die, literally, if he were to lose Anika.  To know love and then lose it again is not something that he can contend with ever again.  Anika, on the other hand, is still working her way back from the dark but she knows that they are everything to each other.
“When I wake up, it’s to his kiss on my forehead. He tells me I’m beautiful every day. He’s gentle with me. He knows my pain and I know his, and neither one of us is afraid to swim through the darkness of the other. The world could be falling down around us, but together we would be impenetrable. He is the other half of my heart, the other half of my soul….without him, I’m incomplete.” – Anika
See what I mean?!  I just wanted to swoon with the intensity of it all.
Well let me take you out of your misery.  Anika is rescued – I don’t feel bad saying so because it happens in the first third of the book.  I won’t, however, tell you the details cause that would be spoiling it.  Needless to say, if I wasn’t hooked already then these events certainly would have done it.
Though Anika is back safely and wedding plans are progressing nicely – darkness hangs over everything.  All the people surrounding them, obviously, love Cole and Anika.  They are all doing everything they can to distract each other.  Nonetheless, despite desperately trying to form a cocoon around Anika from events that are ongoing we feel the dread of “something wicked this way comes”.
J.B. Hartnett has written an enthralling read.  The people surrounding the leads are very interesting in and of themselves.  Cole is a beautiful man inside and out.  Inky is a fighter!  What happens to Serena?  Where is Joe?  Do Cole and Anika get the HEA they so richly deserve?  There were times when I wanted more detail – for sure – but when all is said and done it was a satisfying read.  Lastly, I hope that J.B. Hartnett is busy writing because I will be anxiously waiting to 1-Click her next book.

Teaser
“Don’t move, baby.” He said gently.
“I’m not going anywhere.” I sat Indian style on the bed and hugged my knees up to my chest letting my head rest against them. “You know what?”
“What?” I heard from the direction of the bathroom.
“I always called Evan ‘baby’. My Dad called me ‘baby’ and I wanted to save it for the man I would marry. I’m sorry I wasted it on him when I have you.” He was behind me, pulling my hair back when I felt a brush against my scalp…heaven. “That feels wonderful…what are you doing?”
“I’m getting you ready for bed.” I could hear his smile.
“You’re brushing my hair.” I sighed happily, stating the obvious. “Wouldn’t you rather be having hot-drunk-no holds barred-sex?”
“Does this feel good?”
“It feels incredible.”
“Then we can have hot-drunk- no holds barred-sex another night. But tonight, Christmas Eve, I want you to remember this. I want it to be special. Both of us in our cupcake pajama’s, me holding you, taking care of you…this is the beginning of our life together…baby.”

Excerpt
I smile into her neck when I feel her pulse quicken a little bit.
“Chase?” Her quiet voice sounds a little bit dry and really tired.
I slowly flick my tongue out and lick her neck and trail soft kisses down to her collarbone. My hand on her hip squeezes slightly, pulling her back into me so she can feel how much I want her.
Damn it, I just want her. All of her.
“What is it, babe?” I whisper into her throat when I realize she’s smiling a little bit and not moving away from me at all. In fact, I think she may have just relaxed into me a little bit more. “What do you need?”
I pull away from her slightly so I can look into her sleepy blue eyes. Her hair is a little messed up and her eyes are barely open, but I can still see that she wants me. Please, I plead with my eyes, don’t tell me you need a glass of water. Don’t tell me you want me to get the hell out of here.
But she doesn’t say any of those things. She just smiles and quietly, so quietly I almost ask her to repeat herself she simply says, “You.”
It’s all I need to hear. If she wants me, I’ll give her all of me. Every last piece of my body, my heart, and my soul. Anything she wants of mine is hers, I just don’t want her to fucking stomp all over it and give back pieces of me, leftover and broken, when she’s through with me.
With a devilish grin, I adjust her so she’s lying below me. “I’m all yours, babe.”

***Blog Tour Stop and Giveaway*** Clover by Braxton Cole

Clover Blog Tour Banner
Synopsis
Clover Watson wants more from life than what she can find on her daddy's farm in southern Oregon. Young, smart, and driven, she has a plan and she refuses to be distracted from her goals. After four years at the University of Washington in Seattle, she heads home for the summer with her diploma and an acceptance letter to graduate school at University of Portland. She's sure she’s got things all figured out. Except for Jake Feldman. He was one of her childhood friends, and she hasn't seen him since she left for college four years ago. This summer he's back in town and all grown up -- sweet, handsome, and completely smitten with Clover. At first, she thinks a harmless summer fling is the perfect reward for her hard work at school. But as the summer continues and their romance grows, Jake challenges everything she thought she knew about herself and her plans. When the end of summer comes, Clover is forced to evaluate what she really wants, but can she find a way to write Jake into her life?

Excerpt
She was sitting on the front steps when he pulled up, clearly showered and wearing a light summer dress instead of the skirt and tank top she’d had on earlier.
Clover smiled softly when she got in. “You came back.” She sounded as uncertain, yet hopeful, about things as he felt.
“Of course.” He kissed her cheek like she’d kissed his earlier and wished he had the nerve to move his mouth just a little to the side. That was all it would take to touch his lips to hers. Instead, he pulled back and shifted into drive.
She settled into the middle seat right next to him with the length of her thigh pressed up against his. He much preferred to have her sit there than all the way over on the passenger side.
He tried to sound casual, but he could feel his face flush with heat as he said, “I threw together some food in case we get hungry.”
“That’s sweet, thank you.” She stretched up and kissed his cheek. For one stuttering, suffocating, perfect moment, her lips touched his skin. His eyes drifted shut and held perfectly still. So far, their exchanges had been relatively chaste, but he felt something shift inside him with that kiss. His crush was moving far too quickly into something solid and his chest swelled with fear and hope.
She lingered there for several seconds, close enough for him to feel the whisper of her breath against his skin. When she finally pulled away, he stayed in that position, stunned immobile by her closeness. She squeezed his leg, kissed his cheek again, quickly this time, then pulled away completely. “So, where are we going?”
He jerked into motion, embarrassed by his reaction. But what else could he expect? When a girl like Clover got close enough for him to smell the subtle fragrance of her shampoo and the lingering chlorine on her skin from the pool, well, something like that would always affect him. And this time it wasn’t just a girl like Clover; it was Clover herself. The crush he’d been cultivating for as long as he could remember had grown exponentially since he’d picked her up earlier that day.
He cleared his throat as he pulled out of the parking lot. “I have no idea. Where do you want to go?”
“Head south, toward the river.”
“You got it.”
Instead of holding her hand this time, Jake settled his arm around Clover’s shoulder. As he pulled onto the highway, she rested her hand on his leg. Unlike before, she didn’t play with his inseam. Rather, she let her hand lie in one place, low by his knee, with her fingers curled around the inside. It was for the best, he knew. The distraction of her hand sliding high up on his thigh while driving was simply too much to ignore. He’d nearly wrapped his truck around a pole while trying to corner on the way into town earlier. He didn’t need a repeat event. Still, he missed the feel of her hand exploring. If he could figure out a way to say it without sounding like an asshole, he’d tell her that she was welcome to touch him whenever and however she wanted. The fear that she might actually take him up on it was enough to keep him silent.
For now, though, he was happy simply to drive down the road with her sitting next to him.

Jenn's Review
Clover was a sweet story about Clover Watson and Jake Feldman. It was about a boy’s crush that spanned years and turned into a man’s love. There was uniqueness with the way it was written, that I enjoyed very much.
It starts present day and Clover’s car has broken down while she’s driving to work. It’s hot and she’s already late. Jake sees them walking and offers a ride. Clover doesn’t recognize him, even though she saw him every summer for the last 12 years. He’s grown up and filled out. He’s also turned out to be very good looking. So what’s wrong with wanting to have a little fun with him for the summer before she has to go back to school.
Jake can’t believe that she’s finally noticed him. He’s been hoping she would see him for more than just a boy and a friend of her brother’s for a long time. And she definitely noticed that he was more than a boy while sitting close to him in his truck! He wants to spend time with Clover and allow her to get to know him. In the beginning, she’s all for getting to know him but I’d say more in the biblical sense. But Jake’s love for Clover means more to him than a romp in his front seat. He has no experience, but Clover is more than happy to show him the ropes.
What I enjoyed about this story was how each chapter was presented. From present day it went to when Jake was first dropped off at his aunt’s house for the summer 12 years prior. And each time it moved up a year, with their present day journey in between. You learn of Jake’s thoughts as a boy when he spends time with Clover and her brother. She may not have paid much attention to him but he was always aware of her. He was always willing to do what it took to make her happy and it didn’t change as he got older.
But, there are decisions that need to be made as Clover is getting ready to move back to school. She has big goals and can’t let them go just because she is falling for Jake. Her dad would never allow it. The good thing is, something happens with Clover and it shows Clover’s dad just what kind of man Jake has grown into. I loved watching them grow up and grow together. I give this sweet love story 4/5 stars!

David is a man who always gets what he wants . . . but this time he may be fighting for something unattainable.

Can Olivia escape the past that threatens to consume her?

And can David break through to her before it does?

Excerpt

As the elevator ascended, David’s body seemed to grow bigger, his bearing predatory. I was his cornered prey. And he was about to strike. After a charged moment, he nodded at the doors. “Go on.” In my thickening haze of anticipation, I hadn’t even noticed our arrival at the penthouse. “We’re late for a very important date,” he said.
“And what date is that?” I asked as we stepped off.
“You, me and nothing else. Leave everything at the door.” He unlocked the door and held it open so I could pass through before him. As I did though, he snatched my elbow. “I said everything.”
Over my shoulder, my gaze met his brown eyes, dark and lusty. He let the door slam to merge his body against my backside, gripping my shoulders roughly in his hands. “I’ve been crazy for you all day,” he rasped in my ear. “And although I love this nude dress, I want it off. Now.” He dragged the zipper down and dropped to his knees. I gasped when his lips touched the base of my spine. His hands skated up my exposed back and slid over my shoulders, releasing the gown so it slumped at my feet. They came around to my front, where he spread his fingers across my stomach. A moan vibrated against the small of my back, sending a shiver up to my shoulders.
He stood and wrapped an arm around my chest, his hardness pressing against my spine. His other hand dropped to pull me open by my inner thigh and touch me through my underwear. I was panting, swaying when he released me suddenly. “Jesus,” he muttered. “I can’t control myself with you.”
Through oversized windows, the city glow lent the only light to the room as he circled in front of me. I put my hand in his and stepped out of the dress, following as he led me down the stairs into the sunken living room.
“Keep those on,” he instructed, motioning to my new black stilettos. He removed his blazer and lit the fireplace as my body, alive with desire, wavered unsteadily in the four-inch heels. He emptied his pockets onto a side table and removed his Rolex. He undid his bowtie slowly with his hooded eyes fixed on me. His limbs, strong and brawny, moved fluidly as he shed clothing. I wanted to learn the contours of his body with my eyes, my fingers, my tongue. And when he looked at me that way, like it was the first time, I could barely help from melting at his feet.

Sandy B's Review
Come Together is the 3rd book in The Cityscape Series (Come Undone Book #1 & Come Alive Book #2).  Each book has ramped up the angst and hot sex a little more.  Come Together is definitely my favorite on in the series.  Olivia had it all – a great husband, a thriving career and an awesome BFF.  Until David (rich gorgeous playboy) Dylan walked into her life and all of a sudden everything she thought she wanted was called into question.  Did I mention her husband Bill?

So began this journey of guilt, betrayal and passion.  Triangles are a tricky thing to do but I have to say that in Come Together it is done well.  David is delicious.  Though I admit that as a wife, part of me felt really angry over this situation.  Olivia and David try to fight their feelings for each other – not very successfully.  The first two books in the series must be read in order to understand the full scope of what is going on here.  However, if affairs/cheating are the kind of thing that set you off or upsets you then I would suggest this is not the series for you.

You may be thinking this is the same old same old cheating wife story.  I assure you that it is not.  There is real emotion here.  Angst like you wouldn’t believe and you know how much I LOVE ANGST!  Olivia makes her choice and then works through the feelings of loss, grief and hope for a new beginning that is a consequence of her choices.  She is conflicted and David hopes that he can convince her that what they have is the real deal.  The chemistry between them is HAWT!  Just when you think you know what’s coming next, Jessica Hawkins, throws us a curveball.

Do Liv & David get their HEA?  Does Bill walk off into the sunset?  Obviously, I’m not telling you a darn thing!  Come Together was a satisfying ending to a really good series.  Jessica Hawkins can count me among her fans.
