***ARC Review*** Wicked Waves (Solsti Prophecy #2) by Sharon Kay

Making daggers out of raindrops is only the tip of the iceberg for Brooke Bonham. As one of four women who can control the elements, her ability to manipulate water packs a deluge of potential. Eager to learn more, she’s frustrated at the precautions she must take to avoid the wrong kind of attention on Earth.

Kai's duties as a Lash demon have kept him busy on Earth for nearly two hundred years. Fighting? He was born to do it. Females? They're drawn to him. And Earth? The perfect place for him to avoid supernatural bounty hunters.

Though the two of them mix like oil and water, Kai senses that beneath Brooke’s frosty exterior hides a vortex of simmering passion. He’s determined to thaw his ice princess.

Forced to work together in the immortal realm, they track a rogue Lash demon at the helm of a widespread kidnapping operation. All too soon, Kai’s dark past catches up to them. Time runs out as a second enemy, bent on revenge, vows to stop at nothing short of Brooke’s enslavement and Kai’s death. As they and their foes stalk each other in a demonic game of cat-and-mouse, will her evolving skills and their fledgling bond be enough to save them?

Lesley's Review

Wicked Wave is the second installment in the Solsti Phrophecy series. It appears as though the story is only getting deeper. That’s why I love cross-over books. There is always more of the bigger picture being showed with each new book.  This installment is about the mysterious Lash Demon Kai, and Brooke, the Water Solsti. Those of you that have read the first book know that these two well…..they don’t start off on the right foot. The anticipation for their story was high because of the underlying tension you could sense. There is so much that happens in this installment, I don’t know where to begin.

Kai and Brooke have an awkward and touchy relationship. When we meet up with them again, things are not much better. Although, secretly Kai may not be so indifferent to the lovely Brooke. Remember the saying “boys are mean because they like you?” Kai is constantly checking in on Brooke throughout his nights on patrol. Things have calmed down substantially in the city. There aren’t as many demons needing to be slayed. Some would say “The calm before the storm”. Yeah.

Brooke has fought her new life. She refused to move in to the Lash demons compound.  Demon Central. However, she does train with them to continue growing her skills. However, when she is attacked, she realizes that there isn’t much she knows how to do. That without the aid of Kai she would be dead. Her need to work on expanding her skill grows. Slowly but surely, Brooke allows Kai to work with her. In return, they start to let their wall between each other come down.

With the new outbreak in demons, there’s a need to go to Torth. Brooke and Kai are sent on a mission to retrieve a rare flower that grows in the depths of the worst area in Torth. Here, darkness descends on these two. Throwing them into each other’s arms. Forming a bond and Trust like no other.

There’s a whole lot of suspense in this one. There were a couple of places I was scared to turn the page. Kai’s past comes back to get him. Brooke gets caught up in the mess. People are tortured. Memories erased.  The old witch Rosa, pops in for a bit of giving aid and taking hair.New characters are introduced, the Hunter.  Our pal from the first book Raniero comes back into play. Boy, oh boy…that I did not see coming. I wasn’t sure where that was going. I do believe that the puzzle is unraveling quite nicely. Nothing seemed to be predictable.

Ms. Kay was able to take this world and continue to run wild with it. I loved the adventure, the hotness, and the mystery. Kai’s broodiness drew me to him. The story of his past hooked me to him. Brooke’s fierce attitude and independent streak had me at hello. Together these two make an awesome team. I give this book 4.5 stars. Wicked Flames is the next installment. The Fire Solsti, Gin seems to be the most stubborn of them all so far but, I have a feeling she’s about to meet her match.

About the Author

Sharon Kay was bitten early by the writing bug. At age twelve she wrote a short story, about a magic ring, that won a statewide contest. With her nose always in a book, she read the most novels for her age group in her local library’s summer reading program.

In her teens, writing took a back seat to fashion, as she was determined to find clothes different from what everyone else bought at the mall. And what she couldn’t find, she created. She learned to sew, worked in a fabric store after school, and spent her spare time with a needle in hand. Her black and orange prom dress is still one of her favorite creations.

Sharon lives in the Chicago area with her husband and son, and didn’t expect to write again. But Wicked Wind and the Solsti series formed in her head one weekend and refused to stay quiet until she put pen to paper. Her characters tend to keep her up at night, as they banter, fall in love, and slay endless varieties of power-hungry demons.
