Lesley's Review of Disastrous by E.L. Montes

Lesley's Review

We've always been taught by society that there is good and there is bad. That a bad guy is a bad guy...... that a good guy is a good guy. Right and Wrong. But as I grow and experience life, I notice that line is not always so defined. One wrong action doesn't make you a bad guy and one good deed doesn't make you a good guy. It's what is in your heart that makes you what you are. It's the why of what you are doing that makes it good or bad. Because sometimes a good person has to do a bad thing and a bad person strives to do a good deed. How many times does it take to change the persons heart?

" There is always someone judgin' you, no matter how good a person you are. Hell you could be a saint, and still there would be that one person who'll despise you"

This story is about; pain, betrayal, love, strength, corruption and forgiveness. Emotionally beautiful. I fell in love with the characters and their fight for each other. Their fight for control of their own lives.
Mia Sullivan is smart, determined young woman. Having a father and brother on the police force and a desire to be a lawyer, she has a strong belief in justice. The Good, the bad and the ugly. Loosing her father and her brother to the hazards of the job, she is more determined then ever to finish at the top. When the opportunity to do an externship at the prestigious office of Marcus DeLuca presents itself, she rises to the challenge.
Marcus DeLuca is a lawyer and a good one at that. He's at the top but Marcus has secrets. Secrets are dangerous and could explode, taking him and several people down. He's been drug into this with no way out but to play along. Or is he just playing along? Can you play Mob or "play" the mob and not get burnt. Impossible positions and hard decisions. We learn he is not proud of his life.
One fated night brings Marcus and Mia together. From that point Marcus is determined to be around her. He knows he should leave her alone. He's not good for her. He wants to be good for her. Mia is attracted to Marcus but feels the mystery behind the man. Her insecurities plague her. Will Mia still want him if she knows the truth? As their lives continue to entwine with each others, more secrets are revealed, trust is broken and a heart-wrenching tragedy strikes. Is love ever enough? Is it enough to look past the bad to see the good?
The love and hurt these two experience is enough to bring you to your knees. I cried and raged for both of them. I understood both sides and empathized. I wanted to smack them around, get them to see the truth, the light. Deep down Marcus is a good person made to do bad things. Mia struggles with so many things, she conflicted and confused. OH ! Sometimes what we think is best, just isn't. I wanted them to see that they truly loved each other and that yes, sometimes love is worth fighting for. Nothing is perfect.  They just have a whole lot more of ugly and bad to look past to see the good.  We don't choose who we love.  Love chooses us. What looks like a disaster can be a blessing in disguise.

"That's what love is....It's scary not knowing what's expected....but I know it'll be the best frightening love we've ever had"

This book was a nice change from the usual, meaning lawyers and mobsters, instead of Rockstars and Vampires. The characters were very well developed and the story told to perfection. I gave this book 5 fabulous stars. Disastrous is one of my absolute favorites. Marcus and Mia have a special place in my heart. I look forward to Cautious and the continuation of a bitter-sweet love story.  *Sigh*
