Graham Reynolds has always taken on the role of the protector in his family. Will he make it in time to save his half sister from the wrath of a mad man? Will Graham be able to deal with the consequences of his actions?

Lily Bennett is the girl next door that Graham remembers as the shy, quiet childhood friend. All grown up, Lily is now a powerful CFO of her family's business. Graham saved Lily once when they were children but now Lily may be the only one who can save Graham from his past. Will she be able to pull him out of his darkness and back to her or will he be forever hiding in plain sight?

Excerpt

Graham’s eyes snapped open and he slowly moved to a sitting position. He gazed up at the green canopy of trees that swayed slightly in the breeze with a few rays of sunshine separating the leaves with their light. It was midday and the birds were sweetly chirping to one another. He moved swiftly to a standing position and began to take in his surroundings.

Graham knew that he had “jumped” to Pip’s world, but upon closer examination of the area around him, he thought he recognized the field as the Miller’s farm on Appleside Drive. Graham trudged through the knee-high wheat and made his way up the small hill. He came to the dilapidated fence that had been painted a crisp white at one time, but now the paint peeled where the fence was still in tact. He found that he was drawn toward the small shack that was about a hundred feet to his left. It was an old tool shed that at one time held small equipment for the farm.

Graham began to wonder why he was here. He’d gotten used to jumping into Pip’s world since he had done it so often in the last twenty or so years of his life. He found that he was drawn toward the woman from a parallel reality that shared his mother’s looks except for her golden hair. Graham had begun to enter her world after his own mother had died and Pip had saved his life with her bone marrow. He’d jumped to Pip’s world too many times to count and usually did so when Pip was hurt or scared. His mother and Pip had been connected when his mom was alive and both women had been in each other’s worlds numerous times over the years. When his mom died, Pip stopped showing up in Graham’s world — Pip no longer had the connection of his mother.

He was easily lost in his own thoughts as he began to think about his mom and back to the day of the accident. A shrill scream penetrated the air and startled him out of his thoughts. Graham’s hand immediately reached for his Glock 23 which was in his holster low on his hip. His muscles tightened as the adrenaline pumped through his veins.

Graham drew his gun and swiftly began to race through the wheat, closing the distance to the shack in a few seconds. He crept up quietly to the edge of the north wall. Graham inched his way pressed against the rough wood. He could hear a man’s voice clearly and muffled crying of a woman, he slid to the broken window and peered in, careful not to be seen.

Jenn's Review

Kate Mathias has created a world much like our own. Everyone has a twin, sometimes the only thing that’s different is hair color. Their circumstances may be different but otherwise, they live their lives on another earth. Everyone is the same but Worlds Apart.
Chapter one of Hiding in Plain Sight picks up where Worlds Apart ends. And that is with Graham making a “jump” into the alternate world. When he arrives he sees Pip, who also looks exactly like his deseased mom, Piper. Pip also saved Graham’s life. She was able to donate her bone marrow since Piper had died before she could donate. They are a part of each other now. And that means Graham can jump to where Pip is and vice versa. Pip is just returning to her husband from a jump that lasted for months. This jump saved her life and it also was the result of another life to be conceived.
Graham and Arie are twins and at this time Arie is not able to make a jump. She’s lost her mom and now auntie Pip has gone back to her world. She feels abandoned and a little jealous that Graham gets to see Pip often. She keeps this to herself though. Only later, when she finds out about the baby that was conceived by her father does the anger and resentment really start to show. She is openly hostile to Palmer, her half-sister, when she finally meets her but knows Palmer isn’t at fault in this. Palmer wants to get to know her “other” family and eventually meets someone that teaches her to control her jumps. Someone who understands! She’s found someone she can talk to and is very easy on the eyes.
Graham, Arie and Palmer take us on a journey of discovery, hurt, forgiveness and love. We get to see Pip and Joe in the alternate world and Joe and his parents in this world. There is plenty of suspense and thrills with some romance on the side. Throw in the paranormal aspect and Hiding in Plain Sight had it all! I’m glad I read Worlds Apart first but you get enough information in this book to not be lost in the story. Spitfire is the next in the series and I look forward to seeing how everyone is doing!

  1. I have already had the pleasure of reading both of Kate's books, World's Apart and Hiding in Plain Sight. She is an amazing author and I recommend her to anyone that loves to read about romance with just a hint (and I do mean HINT) of paranormal. You will be amazed how well she keeps you entertained! Love me some Kath Mathias!
