In The Dark King, life has taken Caroline and Devilyn on another life changing and dangerous journey. No matter how hard Devilyn tries to change what is to written, he can’t fight against what the fates have decided.

When we left Caroline and Devilyn in the end of the first installment of this series,Devilyn rescued Caroline from his father and decided to leave Caroline behind. He felt it was safer if she continued to live her life as she’s always known. He took her memories of who she was and who he was.  He felt he was rescuing her from himself. Once again, Devilyn must learn the hard way.

Feeling to secure in his capture and imprisonment of his father, He rules The Dark kingdom with a confident hand. What is it they say about those who are over confident? They make mistakes. They underestimate others. That’s exactly what happens to Devilyn in the Dark Kingdom. The new Dark King has enemies. Enemies loyal to his father.

Caroline, in the meantime, is going about her life as though nothing has ever changed. She’s started back to school, dreading drama, and trying to pretend she isn’t’ having strange dreams about the boy who never wanted anything to do with her, Devilyn Reilly. The boy who is strangely absent. With the low hopes of Devilyn coming back and actually having feelings for her, she starts to “notice” the new handsome football player in town. Rowan. Unlike Dev, Rowan doesn’t send mixed signals to her. Hmmm…..

Ultimately, Devilyn ends up back in the human world to protect Caroline. He continues with the façade that he and Caroline never had anything more than a friendship. Caroline still harbors feelings that she doesn’t understand but the handsome Rowan is making it kind of easy to push those aside. But little does she know it’s making it harder for Devilyn to ignore the feelings he has for her, The Queen to his King.

Things definitely get interesting in this installment. We have jealousy, love, danger, more mystery and more adventures. I don’t want to take away the suspense of not knowing what is going to happen, so I am not going to delve any deeper. The story continues to get deeper while it’s being set up for the next installment. It moves fast and is over before you know it. This one does end on an “oh no” moment. Just to warn you. I turned the page and let out a curse or two.  The authors did a good job at keeping me interested and hooking me in for the next book. I look forward to finding out if fate can be changed. I give this one 4 stars.
