***Review Tour*** Perfect Lie by Teresa Mummert

Synopsis:
Sometimes love burns so hot in your veins that it consumes
all rational thought.

That's why Brock and I never had a chance.  I had to start my life over. College was my
chance to become someone new. I changed everything about myself to fit in, but
one person saw through my facade.

The attraction between Abel and I was undeniable, but I
still hadn't healed from the painful secret I carried around with me. Abel
struggled to get me to face my past in order to move forward. In doing so, he
revealed a secret of his own; one that changed everything I thought I knew.

A secret that would bring Brock back into my life and force
me to face the truth of what really happened the day I lost him.

Jenn's Review:

As soon as I finished this book I had one word on my mind. BRILLIANT. I wanted to talk about it immediately and if you haven’t read it yet, I couldn’t risk giving anything away. But you that have read it well, you know what I’m talking about.

Delilah or Lie had a crappy childhood. She is a product of rape, whose mother was forced to keep. She made it painfully clear that Lie was not wanted nor loved. Lie ran away from home multiple times and finally ended up in a group home to live until it was time for school to resume. This is where she meets Brock. He doesn’t back down from her when she tries to push him away. He becomes her first real friend and soon her first love. He knows it’s bad at home and worse at school. Lie is bullied and picked on constantly. Everyone knows her own mom doesn’t want her and they know why. Brock ends up leaving her too but we don’t know what happened until the end.

Fast forward a few years and she lives Trish and she says Trish is her friend but, she knows that’s not really true. Trish only looks out for herself and the next party. Lie still takes care of her though. Through Trish she meets Abel. He’s different than the others but she’s still not sure if he is someone she can trust. She starts to slowly let him in but that goes to sh!t when he agrees to go out with party girl Trish.

This really upset me! I could sense that Abel has feeling for Lie and his actions had me all kinds of confused. But, it all comes together nicely, I promise. I know I really haven’t given much away and there is a huge reason for that. If you like a book with a huge twist in it, then this is for you. You know those books that make you gasp when it all comes together? Yeah, this did it for me. I cannot wait to see what comes next!

Author Bio:

"I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. That is what brings us here today. If you have a moment I'd like to tell you a story.

***Lesley and Jenn's Reviews of White Trash Beautiful by Teresa Mummert***

Blurb
A word-of-mouth bestseller that’s captivating readers with its honesty, grit, and headstrong heroine, White Trash Beautiful is a story for anyone who has ever felt trapped in life, cheated by love—and longed for something more . . .

Cass Daniels isn’t waiting for her knight in shining armor. She knows that girls like her don’t get a happily ever after. Not if you live in a trailer with your mom, work at a greasy spoon diner, and get leered at by old men. Maybe that’s why she puts up with Jackson—her poor excuse for a boyfriend, who treats her like dirt. Cass has learned to accept her lot in life. That is, until he walks into her diner. . . .

His name is Tucker White, and he’s different from any man Cass has ever known. Tall, tattooed, and bad-ass gorgeous, he’s the lead singer of the rock band Damaged. From the moment they meet, Tucker sees something in Cass he just can’t shake. Something beautiful. Something haunted. Something special. And he’s determined to find out what it is—if only he can get her to open up and let him in. . . .

Lesley's Review

White Trash- is an American pejorative term referring to poor white people, especially in rural and Southern United States....... The term suggests outcasts from respectable society living on the fringes of the social order who are deemed dangerous because they may be criminal, unpredictable, and without respect for authority whether it be political, legal, or moral.

Beautiful-having qualities that delight the senses, especially the sense of sight.

This book is clearly defined in those two terms.  It's not about the perfect life, with parents who take care of you or where your biggest worry comes from what to wear.  It's not a story about posies and ponies. White Trash Beautiful is a story about the shitty life that Cass has been dealt.  How Cass has to be the parent to her drug addicted parent because she's the only one who stayed. It's about how she has to bust her a$$ to end up with no money or food on the table. It's about her watching the two people she cares about destroy themselves and not care. No one cares about Cass or takes care of Cass ! Even the ones who swore to, everyone lets her down.  She can trust no one. Yes, Cass's life is shit. But how do you leave the only family you have?  Maybe Cass doesn't deserve to have more.  Maybe there's no escaping, she'll always be stuck in this and should settle for it. Cass believes these things.  If you are told that you are white trash enough, eventually, you believe it. Yet, she wants more. She is a fighter just existing in a hell she doesn't want.  Cass has built a tough exterior to protect her vulnerable interior. Mental demons caused from the abuse of this life, threaten to take her down. (Dare I say she has become co-dependent?) She just may be the one destroying her chance at a better ever-after.

"I became so good at pushing people away that I forgot who I was and let others' hatred consume me"

Especially, when a stranger walks into the diner, Tucker. He's hot as hell and looks like the typical bad boy that Cass needs to stay away from. She has an instant attraction to this man. However, when Jax (her drug addict boyfriend) comes into the bar asking for money and causing trouble, the new stranger sticks up for her. He continues to visit and as much as Cass wants to fight it ....oh she does try but she can't. She feels like Tucker sees the real her. She feels drawn to him unlike she has with anyone. Believing it's only temporary she jumps in and takes something for herself for once. A little piece of happiness. Damn the others, no one cares about her, just the money she can give them. They only worry about the next high they can find. He does protect her, he cares. OR is it just pity.

"Sometimes you have to fall before you can fly....and sometimes you need someone to catch you"

While, life is handing Cass some sunshine, Jax is getting shittier. When Cass gathers the strength to leave, Jax has other ideas. The nightmare unfolds before your eyes. Tucker her protector and savior comes to the rescue again. But can you rescue someone who doesn't want or feels that they don't deserve it? Can Cass overcome the beliefs and insecurities that plague her, to grab what she deserves?

Cass's story touched my heart because I can relate. Hell, I lived some of this ugly. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best teenage years. It was not nearly as bad as Cass's but it was enough for me to know exactly how she felt being trapped in a situation that wasn't you. The feeling that there is NO way out. To care for people who are trapped in their own hell and can't see past it, to the damage left behind. Feeling like the parent. Just wanting people care. This is a beautiful story of heart-ache, despair and strength. We meet one beautiful girl who fought to survive. We learn how perseverance and love are sometimes seen as the enemy.

I can not wait for the continuation of this story. It's going to be a rough ride but I have no doubt Cass will come out on top. I give this book 5+ stars !!!!

Jenn's Review

Cass has been dealt a crap hand. She works night and day, trying to save up for something better only to have it taken away. Her dad left when she was a little girl. Her mom and boyfriend, Jax, are only shells, wasting away from repeated drug use. She lives with this. They have no one to take care of them, so she has to. But who takes care of Cass. Easy, she takes care of herself. She needs no one and therefore, lets no one in.
But there is someone who wants to take care of Cass. Tucker. He wants to protect her, provide for her and care for her. If only she’d let him. But everyone she’s ever cared for leaves her. It’s safer to keep the walls around her heart closed. Just like it’s safer if she keeps her bedroom door locked. Tucker accepts the challenge she presents. He isn’t giving up on Cass. But Cass knows her life isn’t going to have a fairytale ending. Hell, she can’t even take a hot shower. She still does the best she can with what was given her. She can save her money again. It may take forever but she’s done it once before.
And then it happens. She lets Tucker in her heart and he wants to stay there. He wants to take Cass away from her shit trailer and her shit life. He wants to start a new life with her. Give her a home that keeps her safe and share everything he has with her. No one is going to stand in his way. Not even Jax when Cass goes to pack what little she has. Jax has other plans though and it leaves Cass in the hospital, suffering from a huge loss. Tucker’s dream may be to sing in front of thousands but his new love is Cass. However, Cass isn’t so sure she is worth it. She feels he is going to miss out on so much of his dream if she tags along. She lets Tucker know she loves him and quietly slips away.
Cass needs to get her life together on her own. She is used to taking care of herself and can do it again. Every time she hears Tucker’s voice on the radio, her heart still skips a beat. She will always love him but this is what’s best. Tucker can’t forget her though. He just has no way of finding Cass. Now that she goes by Anne, her mom’s name. I highly recommend White Trash Beautiful. This story of overcoming horrific obstacles and doing your damnedest to make something out of nothing will touch your heart and make you thankful for what you have, be it great or small. I am looking forward to White Trash Damaged, due out next year! 5 out of 5 stars!

Lesley's Review:
I’m going to start by saying this book is not for everyone. From the beginning I could tell it wasn’t my cup of tea. However, when I say that I don’t mean the book wasn’t good. Does that make sense? What I am trying to say is that I could separate the writing from my emotions and tell you I just didn’t jive with the characters, at no fault of the author.  Let me tell you a little bit about the book and then you can decide if this book is for you.
Colt is a kidnap for ransom henchman for the mob. He takes unsuspecting, rich woman and holds them hostage until a payment is made to secure their release.  As he is casing out some potential hostages, he meets a girl. A beautiful girl, Lily. Apparently, she just so happens to know him. How? She’s cryptic with her clues, leaving him curious and slightly confused. It doesn’t take long for the curiosity to kill the cat so to speak. He calls her.
Receiving a call from Colt, Lily agrees to meet him to talk about the bind that links them. He needs to know how she knows him. Turns out they have a past and things are not always what they seem. Colt (Cole) and his bad boy ways catch up to them as they leave the bar. Wrong place, wrong time. It doesn’t seem to be the only other time. Lily (Rose) becomes his hostage. The weather stormy.
“You’re whoever the f*ck I want you to be. For the next two weeks I fucking own you and if you’re lucky, you may still be alive when all of this is over.”
They are trapped together in this fiasco and things tend to get a little heated. More secrets are revealed about the two and about Colt.  Along with the tension also comes the passion. This is where I felt disconnected. I couldn’t feel what she felt. I didn’t understand or couldn’t understand the lust she had for the man who kidnapped her. Who could jump right into being with someone intimately while the held you hostage? I mean yes, there is Stockholm syndrome but that takes a while to develop. I just didn’t get it until the very end of the story. That’s what kept me just on the outside of the story. Maybe that’s what the author was going for? I don’t know but I didn’t feel remorse or empathy until further towards the end. It was just a matter of me not liking the character.  Street thugs, kidnapping …I just did not start this one on the right foot, I suppose. Lord, knows I’ve read book with characters whose behavior out ways this ones. In the end the story made more sense and I did feel some sympathy towards what was happening. I did like how the author wrote the story, but something was missing for ME. Hence, the reason I give it 3.5 stars. I didn’t love it or hate.  It won .5 of those stars in the end when it started to pull me deeper. SO, I have two words for you… personal preference. You may absolutely love it and I encourage you all to read it.
