SOMETHING MORE THAN THIS
Barbie Bohrman
Releasing April 26th, 2016
Montlake Romance

Katy Lewis has it all: a sports reporting job she loves, a great roommate, and two brothers who, while nosy, always have her back. But when Conner Roberts, Katy’s unrequited first crush, suddenly shows up—and shows interest—after nine years, she reverts to a sweaty, panicked sixteen-year-old once more.

And if trying to read Conner’s signals isn’t tough enough, Katy’s heart is sending some mixed messages of its own. When a beautiful blonde coworker starts pursuing Katy’s boss, Dylan Sterling—her longtime mentor and friend—she realizes she may have a problem with that. A reunion with Conner is what she’s dreamed of for so long…so why can’t she stop thinking about Dylan?

For the first time ever, Katy must fact-check her heart. Should she go after the guy she thought she always wanted or see if there’s something more with the one who’s been there all along?

Are you a fan of friend to lover romances?  Then Something More Than This will be your perfect cup of tea.  Katy Lewis a female sports reporter in a male dominated business.  Have no fear because Katy was raised by her two brothers (Jonathan & Simon) when their parents died.  She knows her stuff and is no wilting lily. She steadily makes progress as she eyes a spot in a major market. Dylan Sterling, is her boss and good friend. She shares an apartment with her very funny and very pushy bestie, Mimi, has two overprotective brothers that adore her. Katy is content with how her life is going. Then things get shaken up when her childhood best friend and first love, Conner, leaves a message on her voicemail.

Conner comes back into town to pack up his Mom’s house because she’s moved. Or does he also have ulterior motives to “finish” something that never really got started between him and Katy?  But wait!  There’s more!  Dylan is just Katy’s friend so why does Katy start feeling all kinds of not happy when Dylan starts “dating” the office bimbette?  Therein my friends is the rub.

Katy kisses Conner.  Katy kisses Dylan.  Now she’s a bundle of confusion about where her heart really lives.  Is it her childhood unrequired love or her friend that’s been there so comfortably that he was almost like the wallpaper.  She’s torn and frankly so was I but in the end I really enjoyed how it all came together.
This book oh this book!  It is the kind of sweet, romantic, not too angsty, sexy, funny yumminess that I absolutely love.  I adored the John Hughes reference and the epilogue had me grinning from ear to ear. Something more than this is great chick-lit, beach read, summer/winter/fall read.  Whatever you call it – call it just right.

Those of you that don’t know John Hughes – go watch Some Kind of Wonderful, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club – STAT!
Until next time….
Sandy B.

 “Are you guys dating now?”
“Why do you ask?”
“We’re friends, right?” I ask. He looks confused by my question but nods anyway.
“What does us being friends have anything to do with Rachel?”
I lean forward until my face is inches from Dylan’s. At this distance, I get an up-close-and personal look at his eyes. For the first time in all the time I’ve known him, I have to admit to myself that I can get a little lost in them. They’re so bright, like an open field of fresh cut grass in Ireland. Not that I’ve ever been to Ireland, but the pictures I’ve seen obviously do it enough justice since it’s stayed with me so vividly. Now I’m picturing myself running up a hill onto said random field. And then my arms go out wide and I spin and spin like Julie Andrews and sing to the sky for no reason whatsoever.
“Katy?”
I blink a couple of times. “Yeah.”
He shakes his head with a smile at my momentary break with reality. I watch his eyes go to where he’s touching me, and then he lets go of my wrist. “To answer your question, no, we’re not technically dating.”
Inwardly, I’m relieved. But that still doesn’t quench my curiosity of how he ended up with Rachel on Saturday. I sit back in my seat a little more comfortably and decide not to ask anything else about it. Dylan, after a second or two, goes back to eating his lunch, so it would seem that the subject is dead and buried. However, in my head, that’s a whole other story. I see them together: Holding hands, and everything seems innocent at first. Then the vision explodes into this flash of images of him pulling her close to him and kissing her. No, that’s not quite right either. He’s ravaging her mouth as her hands thread and pull wildly at his hair. My pulse trips in my throat as the images keep on coming. Each one more vivid than the one before it.
What is wrong with me? Why am I thinking about this? And why the hell does it bother me to the point that I’m embarrassed to even look at him right now.

Excerpt
The next few moments are kind of a blur and kind of an out ofbody experience, because I’m not absolutely sure, but it feels as if I’m being carried up the stairs by Cameron; either that or I somehow
picked up the superpower of flying when I got this case of strep throat. Even stranger is when I’m placed in my bed, then reach out to grab a fistful of Cameron’s T-shirt and pull him down into my bed with me. More odd still is when I snuggle into his arms and sniff all the sunshine goodness that is his signature scent while burrowing into his warmth.
During the course of my broken sleep, I’m slightly aware thatI’m sharing my bed with a man for the first time in many, many years. I’m cognizant of the fact that it’s Cameron, which brings a smile to my face even as I’m semi-restless. And that he’s holding me so close to him, like a prized treasure, and running his fingers through my hair with tenderness while my fever breaks and the dreams finally come.

Sandy B's Review

Vanessa Holt is frozen in time. That is to say she's a single mom to a precocious almost teenage daughter (Josie) and her daughter, is the center of her universe. There is no room for romance, for love, for taking a chance on a relationship. I would even say that Vanessa has used Josie to avoid any kind of romantic entanglements. Then Cameron Thomas comes along and things start to get interesting. What if I told you that this possible "love" is her daughter's teacher? Oh the possibilities for complications are endless! Oh and wait! Josie's father also comes back into the picture. He's a changed man and he wants to be in his daughter's life.

This is the perfect beach read, summer read, anytime you want something that will make you feel good on the inside read. Barbie Bohrman is one of my favorite authors. She always injects humor into her stories and I love that about her. Her characters are very well defined so there is no one blends into the other cause they're all the same kinda thing. It is sexy and angsty without being too heavy on the drama factor. It was just what I needed!

Starting Over was a great way to spend a chilly Sunday afternoon in my reading chair. Though Starting Over is standalone, I highly recommend you 1-Click on Book #1 (Promise Me) and Book #2 (Playing it Safe).

Excerpt
True love’s kiss . . . It sounds so innocent and hopeful, and taken at face value it’s a chaste promise of romance and never ending, undying love brought on by a simple kiss between two people. However, when you think about, at least as much as I have, when exactly would you know with all the certainty in your heart that a kiss is the true love’s kiss? Does it exist merely in fairy tales? Or, if the right man comes along, does his love for you and all the passion in his heart somehow flow through that barely there brush of lips against yours, until your own heart is overflowing with an emotion that you’ve never felt before? And as a result of this one little kiss, will you fall head over heels and madly in love with this person, forsaking all others for the rest of your life and vice versa? The dreamer in me loves the allure of the fantasy. However, the realist in me has a hard time wrapping my head around the whole idea because, really? One kiss could have that much power? I highly doubt it.

***Promise Me by Barbie Bohrman Blog Tour Stop and Giveaway***

Blurb:
Sabrina Chandler must go back home to face her past and confront her once best friend and ex-boyfriend who betrayed her in the worst way possible.
Returning to her past also means coming face to face with the boy who was standing in the shadows one fateful night. The same boy she made a promise to and who unknowingly walked away with her heart.

Can she move forward with her life when her heart is still 10 years in the past?

Sandy's Review:

“I stand there frozen in the shadows watching him through the window.  Him. He’s my first love and my life…and he’s kissing my best friend.” – Sabrina Chandler
“I’ve waited a long time to be this close to you again so I’m not going to waste my time catching up with a bunch of people who didn’t give a shit about me ten years ago.” – Tyler Anderson

There it is! That line right there – from the very first page – “kissing my best friend”.  Arrrghhh, it broke my heart and just like that I was completely and totally hooked.  Did you ever wonder about that boy?  You know the one.  That one boy that always made your heart skip a beat whenever you saw him in the hallway.  He probably never even knew you were alive or maybe he did but your Dad would have grounded you for life if you ever looked his way.  Wonder what ever happened to him.  Sabrina Chandler has been wondering the same thing about Tyler Anderson for 10 long years.

Sabrina couldn’t wait to get the hell out of Dodge.  Physically and geographically she has moved on.  Emotionally, she’s still in the same place – standing outside that damn window watching everything she thought she knew to be true blow up in her face.  Sabrina has a wonderful new BFF and a great life in Miami with a job she loves at an art gallery.  By the way, she has a hot as hell boss named Alex.  As it turns out Alex wants Sabrina and is hoping Sabrina will give him a chance.  Poor sod doesn’t realize that he’s competing with the ghost of her high school past.  Oh!  Wait let me tell you about the BFF!  Her name is Julia.  She is brash, bold, honest, loving and a total ride of die chick.  Says things like “oh it is on like Donkey Kong”.  I laughed my ass off.  Now that is my kind of girl!  I’ve been saving the best for last.  Let’s talk about Tyler Anderson.  He was a bad boy way back in the day.  However, he’s turned all that around to be even better than any fantasy Sabrina had of him all these years.

Ten years later and yet once they “meet” again it seems as it no time has passed at all.  These two feel a deep down soul connection that has been there all along for both of them.  Alas, the road to love does not run smoothly.  She is in Miami and he is in Philadelphia.  There is Alex to consider and Tyler was not a monk all these years.  Of course, there is the obligatory confrontation with her old “bestie” Lisa and ex-love Chris.  Let me tell you some of the saddest, yet funniest and “yea tell that bitch off” stuff I’ve ever read is in Promise Me.  Alas, there is also angst and there for sure heart ache.  There were a couple of places where I had to step away from my Kindle (to stop myself from flinging it across the room) and get a bowl of ice cream to fortify me so that I could continue.  Honestly, I almost had to pull out the tequila.  LOL. Really, there was no doubt that I would continue because like I said from the beginning – I was hooked!  I freaking loved it.  Every single little bit of it.  Even the parts that made me crazy.

I know the formula has been done before, ad nauseam, in many many books and movies but Barbie Bohrman made it fresh and exciting and fun and sad and angsty and sexy.  How did she do that you may ask?  Well, my friends, she does and she does it very well indeed.  Promise Me was definitely worth my time and I think you will find its worth yours too.
