SYNOPSIS
Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by the boyfriend. She had two choices. Call the cops and be killed by his family’s mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive. There was no choice to her. She killed the bastard first and went to the one person who could protect her. Carter Reed. He’s a weapon for the rivaling mafia family, but he’s also Emma’s secret. Not only was he best friends with her brother, but she’s the reason he became that weapon in the first place.

Sandy B's Review
“When
he slid inside of me, I held still, helpless against how my body trembled for
him. Then he started to move and I came
alive in his arms. As the rhythm grew
and his thrusts went deeper and deeper, I wrapped my legs around him. I joined with him, in every manner. My body was his. He could do as he pleased, and as I skimmed a
hand down his back, he trembled underneath my touch. His body was mine as well. We belonged to each other.“
“We
didn’t speak. I couldn’t. This man was mine. This very powerful being, sculpted to
perfection with eyes that were of a wolf’s.
He touched his lips to mine, a soft claiming as he whispered against
them, “I love you so goddamn much, Emma.”
“I love you too.”
Those
two paragraphs right there, I read them over and over and over. That delicious swoon worthyness right there
is one of the reasons why I liked this book so much. That all encompassing kind of feeling that
your mind and senses are lost to everything around you, except every breath,
every caress, every kiss, every lick, every single solitary touch from that
person that holds your heart so completely.
Sigh…..
Let
me tell you a little more about Carter Reed.
It starts off with a BANG! Literally.
Emma comes home early to find her roommate being brutally raped, after
being beaten, by her dirtbag boyfriend.
Said boyfriend also happens to be the son of a very bad guy high in the
mafia hierarchy. There is no good way
out of this situation. Either she shoots
said POS (piece of sh*t) or calls the cops (which are all in his Dad’s pocket)
and both her and her roomie end up swimming with the fishes wearing cement
shoes. Guess which one she picks?! What’s done is done so now they must run for
their lives. Run where? Who is going to help them? Enter Carter Reed.
Carter
happens to be best friend of Emma’s dead brother. Emma has not seen, nor spoken to him since
she was a child. Carter is also high up in the mafia ranks and may just be the only
guy that can stand between her and certain death. Just so I’m being clear, Carter is not a nice
guy! He is exact opposite of your usual
romance novel hero. AND I LOVED HIM FOR
IT! Carter made a promise to Emma’s
brother and will do anything, even lay down his own life to keep Emma safe.
There
is angst, there is romance, there is action a plenty here – along with a good
dose of hawt sex – which I enjoyed very much thank you.
There
are some twists and turns that maybe you expected but I bet you that there are
some that you never saw coming. Will
Emma survive? What about the “other” bad
guys? Is Carter really what he seems to
be? Is there an HEA to be had here? Nope! Not telling – you guys should know me
well enough by now to know my lips are sealed.
I will say that if you want hearts and flowers and bunny rabbits
skipping through a meadow then this are not be book for you. If you want a darker read, with action and suspense
that still brings the sexy – then pick up Carter Reed.
Interview with Tijan
Sandy B:
Did you always want to be a writer?
Tijan:
No. I was told I was a horrible writer, so it wasn't until after college
that I began. It was a surprise to me, but it clicked. I hope it lasts, at
least for awhile!
Sandy B:
How do you react if one of your books receives an unfavorable review?
Tijan: It's inevitable. Some will love it. Some will hate it. I just try to keep writing books that I can be proud of what I created.

Sandy B:
Are the names of the characters in your novels important?
Tijan:
Yes. They help define who I have in mind.
Sandy B:
I felt about Carter, the way I did about Mel Gibson in Payback. He was a
"bad guy" but I found myself rooting for him. Not the usual romantic
hero. What was your inspiration for
Carter Reed?
Tijan:
It just a feeling I had. I wanted this 'feeling' to resonate through a
book to people.
Sandy B:
What’s next for you?
Tijan:
Fallen Crest Public.
Sandy B:
When will we get more Carter?
Tijan:
Probably, but I'm not promising when!
Not exactly
what I wanted to hear but it is said that good things are worth waiting for and
Carter Reed – well yea – he was a very good thing. I’ll be waiting and watching Tijan! ;-)

Tijan started writing later in life, after she had already graduated college with a different direction in mind and a different degree under her belt. Hitting the brakes on that path, she taught herself how to write a good book and began posting at sites such as Fictionpress, along with Wattpad. After receiving such encouraging messages from readers, she self-published Fallen Crest High and has continued throughout the year. She continues to keep writing NA books!
TEASER
EXCERPT #1
"Tell me what happened." His plea was so soft.
I broke. This wasn't the stranger anymore. This was Carter, the boy I had grown up with. I flung my arms around him and pulled him down. Instead of fighting, I clung to him now.
He wrapped his arms around me and rolled to his side. He patted my back and tucked his head into the crook of my neck and shoulder. I felt his lips brush there as he repeated, "You have to tell me. I won't hurt you. I will protect you."
A shudder went through my body. At last. Those were the words I was desperate for. He moved his hands, one sliding down to my hip and the other cradling the back of my head, he pressed into me. The last of my reserve fled then. A gasp escaped me and I pressed against him. I needed him.
"Emma."
Shame flooded me. He knew. What kind of person was I? Fighting, running away, and then starting to tremble in his arms?
His hand started to caress my hip. His fingers slid underneath my shirt and moved under my pants' waistband. He held me there, his hand splayed out. I tried to resist, but I wanted to wind my legs around him. I wanted to pull him on top of me and feel his hand between my legs. But I didn't do anything. I lay there, still, as my heart pounded inside of me. He could feel the beat against him. The thumping drowned everything else out.
He pressed a soft kiss to my forehead and raised himself up again. He looked down at me. The plea in his eyes was still there. As he brushed some of my hair from my forehead, he asked, "Do you not trust me?"
I nodded. "I'm scared of you."
A small grin appeared at the corners of his mouth. "You are?"
"I don't know who you are anymore." I couldn't believe I was admitting any of that, but I needed to trust someone. I had to if I was going to survive what I had done. Feeling a little bit brave, I touched his chest. My hand spread out like his was on my back. His heart was steady. I murmured, "I know who you are. I know you're the Cold Killer. I know what you did for AJ." A tear slipped from the corner of my eye. It fell unheeded. "I always wanted to thank you for that."
