Jenn's Review
Escaping Reality is a fast-paced romance with a huge helping
of mystery. From the beginning to the very end, I was hooked! And I mean that.
There was not a slow moment in this book. That makes it very hard when it’s the
middle of the night and I really need to go to bed but really don’t want to!
Amy isn’t allowed to settle anywhere. She is constantly on
the run. From what? She doesn’t know! All she knows is that her handler saved
her life and has a tattoo of a pyramid on his wrist. So anytime she sees that
symbol, she knows to trust it. This time it’s a note saying she needs to get
out, leave everything and get to the airport. Soon her name goes from Amy
Reynolds to Amy Benson; she has a new history to learn and a new city to live.
While waiting for a seat on a plane that was overbooked, she
sees the handsome stranger and he is staring right at her. She can’t look away
from him and he knows it. He commands attention and he has hers. All too soon
he boards the plane and she is left standing there. The airline has a seat for
Amy and it’s in first class. She really doesn’t have time to question how she
got the seat and finally boards before the door close. Just so happens as she’s
trying to stow her bag, it’s the handsome stranger that is sitting beside her.
There is something about this man. She feels as though he sees more than she is
able to show. Revealing more about herself than allowed can get people killed.
So she has learned to be alone, to take care of herself. It’s been years now
and even though it’s a lonely life, it’s the safest.
Liam Stone. He’s the billionaire, recluse, and architect
that pushes himself into Amy’s life. He wants her in more ways than one. And he
lets her know. It doesn’t hurt that he is extremely easy to look at and he
keeps her nightmares away. He has inserted himself into her life and she is
starting to welcome it. No one has worried about her or cared for her in any
way in so long. It scares and excites her at the same time.
“If you want to sleep,” he says, “I promise to keep Godzilla
at bay for you.”
Amy tries to start her new life and Liam wants to make sure
he is included. It makes him uncomfortable that she’s never met her boss, but
he doesn’t understand. She can’t tell him the truth, as much as she wants to, because
he could get caught up in the mess that has become her life. She has no idea
who she is and can barely remember who she was! But she wants to trust Liam so
badly. He has proven that he does want to take care of her. He knows she
running from something and he wants to do all he can to keep her safe. He also
knows she will tell him when she is ready.
Things are becoming odd for Amy. The people around her, even
the ones not around her. She has more and more questions and the constant
feeling she is being watched or followed. Even with the comfort Liam is
providing, something is going on. She is not safe but she sees no other choice
but to tell Liam the truth of what she has been running from and why. But
before she gets to do that, Amy finds out some information that destroys what
little bit of security she had. The danger she is in is worse than she thought
and the only option she has is to run.
I loved everything about this book!! As I mentioned above, I
felt there was not a slow moment. Everything seemed to be a small clue or just
a little more information than what I had before. I am still reeling from the
ending and as you probably guessed, it is a huge cliffhanger. That said, I
cannot wait for the next installment! I need answers like yesterday!! I can
honestly say that Lisa Renee Jones has done an amazing job on her first NA
book. Looking forward to more!! 4.5/5
