When it rains it pours….
Hard-nosed and self-reliant Dallis O'Brien has had her fair
share of devastation. Her father's tragic accident sparked what seemed like a
domino effect of heartbreak and loss. Unable to shake the fear of enduring any
more pain, she builds walls around her heart, hoping to heal on her own.
Dallis' road to recovery is disrupted when she meets Grayson
Rivera, a tattooed, coffee shop owner who, by appearances alone, isn't her
typical match. Stubborn and hesitant to let him in, Dallis finally succumbs to
Grayson's persistence, where he challenges her to face her loss while also
having the walls of her heart broken down.
With Grayson's assistance, Dallis must decide if she is
willing to learn how to be weak in order to be strong

Lesley's Review:
With a title like
Shattered, you expect the worst. I was nervous just from the title. My
imagination was going wild with the beginning of the story. Although my heart
broke for Dallis in the beginning, I
felt like this story was about putting the shattered pieces back together.
Dallis is a young woman that is reeling from some serious
loss in her life. She was lucky to have Colby and her best friend Miranda to
help her through these terrible times. Colby being so supportive, she developed
a more intimate relationship with him upon losing her father. Years later she
is back in the same spot having to face the unexpected and soul crushing news. Colby
stepping in to help support her in a terrible time… again. Everyone expecting
the fall out to be shattering. Only she doesn’t fall apart, she builds walls
and becomes an emotionless machine. She can’t grieve. She pushes Colby Away. Is
it because she’s grieving or maybe it’s because they’ve grown apart?
“Fine. You want to know why I’m such a dark hearted b*tch?”(I
think I got it)
A chance encounter at a coffee shop puts Grayson Rivera on Dallis’s radar. As much as she doesn’t want to admit it,
she catches herself thinking of the Barista boy. Grayson, the laid back, tattooed,
hottie is just as stubborn as she is hesitant. (Cue his sly smile and sparkling
eyes) His persistence pays off and as they spend more time together love
blossoms. We start to see Dallis come out of her funk and show more of her TRUE self. Grayson is patient with
Dallis but he pushes her to heal. He pushes her to live and grieve. I really
enjoyed their banter and water play antics. Finding a common ground, their
relationship grows stronger and walls come down.
“That’s the thing. You’re not dealing with it. You forget
that I was, and still am, in your shoes.”
“I didn’t want to spend every waking moment with Grayson,
but then again, I did.”
I was completely taken back at first by Dallis, I felt she
was cold and bitchy. I felt sorry for Colby. I couldn’t understand why she was
acting the she was towards him. Yet, I understood that he was a touch arrogant.
I wasn’t sure where Dallis’s head was. However, I understood better as the
story progressed. I felt the deadness of emotions portrayed in the story. I
felt that added to the feeling as the reader. You can’t get hurt anymore, if
there’s no one there to hurt you. She
kept everyone at a distance. There was a time that I wasn’t sure what was
pushing her desire to be or not to be with Colby. I found my heart breaking for
all of them. Someone was going to have a broken heart in the end and that’s
just sad. I am glad that Dallis found all her pieces and started putting
herself back together. She found her
home. I believe the author did a wonderful job with this one. I enjoyed taking the journey with Dallis.
I gave this book 4
Stars.
“Babe, wherever I am, as long as I am with you, it’s going
to feel like home.”
About the author:
I won't put anything out that I am not absolutely proud of,
but like E.L. James said, "I can't own people's reactions to it."
