Blurb:
Sabrina Chandler must
go back home to face her past and confront her once best friend and
ex-boyfriend who betrayed her in the worst way possible.
Returning to her past
also means coming face to face with the boy who was standing in the shadows one
fateful night. The same boy she made a promise to and who unknowingly walked
away with her heart.
Can she move forward
with her life when her heart is still 10 years in the past?
Sandy's Review:
“I stand there
frozen in the shadows watching him through the window. Him. He’s my first love and my life…and he’s
kissing my best friend.” – Sabrina Chandler
“I’ve waited a
long time to be this close to you again so I’m not going to waste my time
catching up with a bunch of people who didn’t give a shit about me ten years
ago.” – Tyler Anderson
There it is! That line right there – from the very first
page – “kissing my best friend”.
Arrrghhh, it broke my heart and just like that I was completely and
totally hooked. Did you ever wonder
about that boy? You know the one. That one boy that always made your heart skip
a beat whenever you saw him in the hallway.
He probably never even knew you were alive or maybe he did but your Dad
would have grounded you for life if you ever looked his way. Wonder what ever happened to him. Sabrina Chandler has been wondering the same
thing about Tyler Anderson for 10 long years.
Sabrina couldn’t wait to get the hell out of Dodge. Physically and geographically she has moved
on. Emotionally, she’s still in the same
place – standing outside that damn window watching everything she thought she
knew to be true blow up in her face.
Sabrina has a wonderful new BFF and a great life in Miami with a job she loves at an art
gallery. By the way, she has a hot as
hell boss named Alex. As it turns out
Alex wants Sabrina and is hoping Sabrina will give him a chance. Poor sod doesn’t realize that he’s competing
with the ghost of her high school past.
Oh! Wait let me tell you about
the BFF! Her name is Julia. She is brash, bold, honest, loving and a
total ride of die chick. Says things
like “oh it is on like Donkey Kong”. I
laughed my ass off. Now that is my kind
of girl! I’ve been saving the best for
last. Let’s talk about Tyler
Anderson. He was a bad boy way back in
the day. However, he’s turned all that
around to be even better than any fantasy Sabrina had of him all these
years.
Ten years later and yet once they “meet” again it seems as
it no time has passed at all. These two
feel a deep down soul connection that has been there all along for both of
them. Alas, the road to love does not
run smoothly. She is in Miami
and he is in Philadelphia . There is Alex to consider and Tyler was not a monk all
these years. Of course, there is the
obligatory confrontation with her old “bestie” Lisa and ex-love Chris. Let me tell you some of the saddest, yet
funniest and “yea tell that bitch off” stuff I’ve ever read is in Promise Me. Alas, there is also angst and there for sure
heart ache. There were a couple of
places where I had to step away from my Kindle (to stop myself from flinging it
across the room) and get a bowl of ice cream to fortify me so that I could
continue. Honestly, I almost had to pull
out the tequila. LOL. Really, there was
no doubt that I would continue because like I said from the beginning – I was
hooked! I freaking loved it. Every single little bit of it. Even the parts that made me crazy.
I know the formula has been done before, ad nauseam, in many
many books and movies but Barbie Bohrman made it fresh and exciting and fun and
sad and angsty and sexy. How did she do
that you may ask? Well, my friends, she
does and she does it very well indeed.
Promise Me was definitely worth my time and I think you will find its
worth yours too.
