Excerpt:
The bright morning sun crept its
way through the tiny cracks in the blinds. I sprawled out across the bed,
stretching and yawning and enjoying that I’d woken up on my own accord and not
to the wailing of…
“Luca!” I jumped up out of the bed
and ran to Luca’s nursery. When I found his crib empty, the room absent of his
yummy morning smell and the sound of his pleasant after-slumber cooing my heart
sank to my toes. Tears pricked my eyes and a strangling lump formed in my
throat. My thoughts were rampant and illogical as I tossed stuffed animals and
blankets and pillows as if he were hiding from me.
“LUCA!” I shrieked, screaming like
it would make him appear. My worst nightmare was coming true. My baby boy was gone.
Zack took him from me! It was the only explanation. My heart thudded so
violently that the blood that kept it pumping was deafening. The panic that
took over my body was so powerful that it hindered every one of my senses. I
was incoherent to the sound of the voice coming from the man trying to shake me
out of my paralysis.
When I noticed he was holding my
son—my happy, laughing, here-in-the-flesh son—I came to, relieved. “Give him to
me, please!” I snatched Luca out of the strong, tattooed arms that cradled him,
kissing his chubby cheeks, his wiggly arms and the entire length of him until I
felt he was covered in my affection. Tears dampened my face, plastering long
strands of hair to my skin. I squeezed Luca so tight he started to cry, too.
“Jesus, Tessa, you okay?”
I gulped back a sob and tried to
compose myself. “I thought he was taken.” Saying the words aloud made the
situation that much more grave. I resumed my kiss attack on my son, inhaling
him as if it was some kind of reunion.
“Taken? Who would. . .” Marcus
trailed off, scratching his head. His eyes wore a heartwarming mixture of
concern, fear and bewilderment. “I’m sorry, Tess. I heard him get up and you
were still sleeping and I thought…”
Heart rate finally back to normal,
I answered him calmly. “It’s okay, Marcus. Really. It’s not your fault. I
overreacted and overslept and…” And must’ve completely forgotten that Marcus
spent the night on my couch.
“I would’ve never. . .I mean, if I
knew…”
I’d scared him half to death and
made a fool out of myself in the meantime. And suddenly his glowing morning
appearance was the reason for my shortness of breath. His chest was bare, the
muscular ridges of his perfect physique accented by incredible artwork of all
different colors, sizes and shapes. He wore the same jeans from the night
before, hanging on his hips and revealing the most defined—and
delectable—v-shaped abdomen I’d ever had the pleasure of witnessing. The terror
that ripped through me moments ago was replaced by something that scared me
still. Wanting. Craving. Longing.
“Mama. Mama.”
My attention no longer cemented on
Marcus, I squealed, “What? What did you just say, Luca man?”
Luca was focused on the stuffed
bear in his hands, sucking on its nose and then shaking it in the air.
“He said something?” Mr. Shirtless
and Gorgeous stood there confused.
“Yes! Didn’t you hear him? He just
said mama. Didn’t you, buddy? Didn’t you?” I couldn’t control the baby talk
now. I was elated.
“So he mumbled a sound that most
babies use to describe everything from the poop in their diaper to the booger
in their nose. What’s the big deal?”
I shook my head, sneering at the
gorgeous dimwit in front of me. “The big deal is that’s the first time he’s
said it and he isn’t talking about a booger, wiseass. He was talking to me.”
“If you say so. And just so you
know, there is definitely shit. . .I mean, poop, in that diaper of his.”
Laughing at Marcus and his failed
attempt at domestication I walked over to the changing table and laid Luca down
to clean him up. “I’m sorry about before. I didn’t mean to sound like a
nutcase.”
Marcus kept his distance as I
lifted Luca’s legs in the air and used a baby wipe to erase his mess. “No need
to explain. I shouldn’t have taken him out of his room without asking you, but
you looked so peaceful and I was up. I just…”
“It was sweet. Really. I appreciate
it.” He was sweet. The gesture was
endearing and I should be thanking him for it.
“Not as much as I appreciate your
lack of pants right now.”
What?
Oh shit! “Oh my God. My pants. Get out…I mean, go downstairs.
Damn it, Marcus!” In my panic
stricken state I’d run straight into Luca’s room without pulling on my pajama
bottoms. I was standing in front of Tall, Dark and Shirtless in nothing but a
skimpy t-shirt and a thong!
“Nothing to be embarrassed about,
you look hot!” he called from downstairs.
Yeah, right. Nothing to be
embarrassed about. First I make out with him all night, then I cop a feel, then
I have a panic attack, and now my whole ass was hanging out for him to see.
“Luca, Mommy is a mess.”
Jenn's Review:
Holy shizz ladies! Keep Me was an adventure. You’ve already
read the synopsis, so you know what it’s about. What you don’t know, yet, is
how incredibly awesome Marcus really is.
Tess is finally going back to work after having her baby and
escaping the wrath of her horrible ex-husband. It’s time for her to get her
life back and find herself again. Zack was controlling, belittling and abusive
but, that doesn’t even begin to cover what he did to Tess while they were
married. With that finally behind her, she can reacquaint herself with old
friends that were pushed away because of Zack. Namely Riley, her childhood best
friend.
Riley has a hard time keeping friends. Her man-whore of a
brother, Marcus, always sleeps with them and it ruins everything. She’s had it
and isn’t afraid to say something. So what happens when Marcus and Tess run
into each other one morning? Well, nothing really, at first. Simple flirting
won’t hurt anyone. But, they quickly get to the point where they are thinking
of each other constantly. Tess’s little boy, Luca, is her number one priority.
And in just a little bit of time, Marcus and Luca have formed a bond.
Tess is afraid to trust Marcus, since she was hurt so badly
in the past. What will it take for Marcus to prove to her that he is not her
ex, that his feelings are real – even though he’s never been in a relationship.
It doesn’t take long before Marcus is begging Tess to give them a chance. But,
Riley is proving to be a big problem. She has no faith in her brother and is
certain that he’s going to screw it all up. So they do what any couple in that
situation would do…keep it a secret of course! Things are going really well for
them. Each admitting to themselves of the love that has grown between them. All
of Marcus’ hard work comes to a head at a party when a former bed mate shows up
and can’t take a hint.
I loved this story and I’ve really grown to love the writing
of Faith Andrews! There was so much packed into this story. There were several
times I was trying to figure out when the rug was going to be pulled out from
under me. And, when it did, well, I don’t have any fingernails left. I’ll leave
it at that. I hope you enjoy Marcus and Tess as much as I did!!

Excerpt
“Stop staring at
her, bro. You look ridiculous.”
“Oh shut up, Carl.
Like you don’t look ridiculous kicking around that fucking hacky sack, waiting
for someone to come over and play with you.”
Carl continues
bouncing the bead-filled ball off his foot. It’s so goddamn irritating. In ten
seconds I’m going to chuck it across the lawn and into the huge fountain next
to that gorgeous blonde. Maybe that’ll get her attention.
“You just want that chick to play with you. Finally get that tiny
pecker of yours some action.”
My jaw tightens and
my hands squeeze into fists. I hate being reminded of my lame sexual status.
Status as in, there is none. “Gimme that fucking thing. You’re such a prick,
you know that?”
He kicks the ball
up and catches it in his hands before pulling it close to him, like I’m about
to steal his fucking beloved blankie or something. “I have a better chance of
getting someone to kick this little ball around with me than you do of getting your balls played with.”
I’m starting to
regret agreeing to have Carl as my dorm mate. This guy’s supposed to be my
friend, my wingman. Not the one making jabs at my manhood, or lack thereof.
“Douche. You’re a
real douche.” I shake my head, ignoring Carl’s smug look and dragging my hands
through my hair to remove the strands that have fallen in front of my face.
Damn floppy hair is obstructing my view of Blondie.
“She is pretty
cute, Dec. Let’s go over to her. See which one of us she picks.”
That’s it—fucking
ball’s mine. While Carl is busy musing over my new obsession I swipe the hacky
sack from him and toss it over to a bunch of stoner-looking freshmen. The
pattern on the ball resembles Bob Marley’s Rasta hat—they’ll like that. One
Love and all that free spirited shit.
“Hey. What the
fuck, man. Why’d you do that?”
“Eyes off my girl.”
“Your girl?” he
laughs so hard it’s almost maniacal. “You’re delusional, bro. And I’m willing
to bet my fake ID that she’ll never be your girl.”
Lesley's Review
Real. Relatable. Honest. Just a few words that float
around when I think about Man of My Dreams. This story had me at:
“The
monotony of reality will suck the glamour right out of any desperate
housewife’s life.”
Or how about:
“I
envisioned June Cleaver-with edge. Everything would be perfect; I would be
perfect….Yeah, not so much. Life got in the way and instead of June Cleaver
there are days I swear I’m more like Peg Bundy.”
Does that sound close to some of your lives? Some days
it’s the story of my life. Seriously. That’s where we find Mia.
Mia and Declan met in college and are now married with
two wonderful little girls. Life is however not all sunshine and chocolate. Mia
is a stay at home mom. While Declan is an accountant, often times traveling
more than not. Most days Mia doesn’t have time to take a shower let alone find
time for her and Declan.Or just time for herself. Their story didn’t go as they
planned but Mia has faith in her relationship with Declan. Until Mia hears that
Declan cheated on her. The whole perfectly imperfect world comes crashing down.
Shattering everything Mia believed in. Gut-wrenching. How do you deal with
that? I mean …wow.
“I
want my husband to be with me because he loves me and can’t live without me.”
I think we all get lost and caught up in life and we
lose ourselves from time to time. We struggle to maintain the firm grasp
causing us to do things out of character. Declan lost his grip first and it
spiraled into a chain reaction, affecting everything. Mia takes a trip to the
past wondering what could have been. Feeling underappreciated and betrayed she
gets lost in the nostalgia with a man she dreams about.
I really love how the story was told. Parts told in the
past and then brought to the future, weaving together an emotional tale. Nothing seemed out of place. I truly fell in
love with Mia and Declan. I was angry for them. Desperately sad when things
were not going very well. I even cheered Mia on when she had to step out and do
her own thing. Yet, I felt bad all at the same time. I was just as confused as
Mia. I didn’t know if I wanted to punch or kiss Delcan. Or better yet, forget
him altogether and run away with Noah. There were many
hearts being torn open. But in the end …all is where it should be.
“I’m
here to fight for what’s mine. For my wife. I want her back and you’re
obviously in the way.”
Often times we read books to escape the monotony of our
lives. We seek to experience adventures and magical things that are nothing but
a beautiful fantasy. This story drew me in because I could relate. And let’s be
honest…..the 90’s music throw backs in here are some of the best. I mean even
the cool water cologne mention….mmm….. It’s like a time warp. Sigh…nostalgia
“And
I’m the Corey to your Topanga, now enough with the 90’s trivia shit…”
I give this book 5
stars. It was genuine and honest. It evoked emotions and kept me glued the
whole way through. For those of you who don’t read books with cheating, I have
to say it’s not that bad and there’s more to the story. Just remember we are
all human.

Jenn's Review
Mia is happily married to Declan. They’ve been together for
several years but unfortunately, with Declan’s work and travel and Mia being at
home with two kids, they’ve both let things slide. Marriages can suffer when
there is no intimacy. So, maybe that’s why Mia has been having sex dreams about
her high school crush!
Mia wanted Noah the moment she saw him in her class in high
school. He made her tongue tied and she was to shy and afraid to make her
feelings known. Such is life… And none of that matters anymore. Mia is happy
and in love. Declan is coming home soon from his business trip and she couldn’t
be more excited. So, when he calls to say he has to stay another night for work,
she is very disappointed. So what happens when Mia finds out that everyone else
came home as planned…well that’s when the sh!t hit the fan.
Now, let me tell you why I wanted to read this book. For
some crazy reason, when the husband cheats, I can read it fine. I like to see
the wife get revenge or something. But when the wife cheats in a book and I
make myself sick with anxiety. This time, I wanted to see what happens with “the
one that got away.”
What Declan did to Mia made her question everything. Her
marriage, herself and everything they had built together. Well, since he got
his time, she decided she wanted her time. My heart broke for both of them.
Even Noah! I really wanted to give him a hug…and an icepack.
I really enjoyed this story. It’s pretty spot on with my age
and all the pop culture that’s mentioned throughout the book was awesome! Even
though some of those parts made me laugh out loud, it certainly took me back to
those days. I must say that one of my
favorite parts of the book was at her high school reunion, Noah is walking
through the doors and Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground is going through her
mind. Ahhhh…
I give Man of My Dreams 4.5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
